February 22, 2006 - If you've ever wanted to see iced, tricked, blinged-out, slammed, dope, wicked, fly, off the chain rides, then the DUB Magazine AutoShow & Concert is for you! DUB Magazine kicked things off West Coast-style and held its first event of the '06 season at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
If you're unfamiliar with "DUB culture" and have never been to a DUB show, don't expect to see clean JDM cars or fully restored America muscle. What you should expect to see are rides that sit on the bare minimum 20" rims. C'mon now -- it's DUB! Anything smaller would be a joke. We're talking about rides that are so wild and sick, the retina-scorching paint jobs alone would make you head straight to the nearest Sunglass Hut. This show had every type of ride imaginable, from sports compacts, trucks, SUVs, luxury cars, exotics and more.

Wanna talk about exotic cars? Well check this out: just as we were about to park our CD5 Accord right next to the entrance, someone in a Lamborghini quickly came from behind and took our spot! Dammit! But we let it go... We told ourselves that the guy probably has a small wee wee... and we get better gas mileage anyways. In your face Lamborghini Man! (We didn't mean it... Give us a ride in your car... please?)
What goes best with hot cars? Fast women, of course! As if we need to say it, the DUB Show had plenty of hotties to keep our eyes happy. Everywhere we turned there was a crowd of guys with cameras (and even their camera phones) snapping up photos of the models. We could barely get any photos of the models because every single second some douche bag jumps in the picture. We even tried getting some pictures of the booty-licious Vida Guerra at the Budweiser booth. Unfortunately, these HUGE dudes in suits said "NO PHOTOS! -- move along!" We didn't want to argue, seeing as these guys were over 6 feet tall and weighed in at 250 lbs.-plus! They could kick our asses without even breaking a sweat.
So the cars and models that were on display at the show are factors that draw in the crowd, but they aren't the only things. Don't forget it's called the DUB Magazine AutoShow & CONCERT. That's right, DUB Magazine was able to bring onto the stage some of today's top Rap/Hip Hop artists such as Mike Jones, Paul Wall and Slim Thug. Fans were also treated to DJ Lady Tribe and DJ Hideo spinning on the ones and twos. And that was only the main stage. Pepsi had a second stage setup where fans were able to show what mad skills (or more hilariously, what not-so-mad-skills) they have on the mic or break dancing with Ruff Ryders' Jin.
I can tell you that we felt out of place at the DUB show, just coming off the JDM-approved Showoff Chinatown and J-Tuned events. Now we're seeing rides with lambo doors, 10,000 watt audio systems (worth more than all the cars at the IGN L.A. offce -- combined), massive chrome rims, hundreds of pounds of Bondo, and all sorts of other wild stuff. We've got to admit that it's a bit of (car) culture shock. You have to admit that these guys that are dropping an easy 20K (usually more) into their rides solely for the cause of having a sick ride is something to admire. We are all automotive fans, but some with different taste. Check out some of the photos from the show and maybe you'll see something you like. If so, be sure to check out DUB Magazine AutoShow & Concert tour dates near your town. I guess we can only dream about owning a Lamborghini rollin on 24"s and having Vida's sweet booty in the passenger seat!
Big ups to Garpot Studio Design and Marketing for hooking us up with the story and photos! Check 'em out at: www.garpot.com
